Yakov Balakhovsky is one of the founding partners of the law firm of Solton Rosen & Balakhovsky LLP, founded more than 10 years ago.  Yakov specializes and has a wide range of experience in international corporate and commercial law, with particular expertise in international investment transactions and trade regulations.   Yakov is also a recognized expert in the field of international commodities transactions, having served as general counsel to several international trading firms.

Yakov Balakhovsky has also served as an expert witness on Soviet/Russian business law and practices, Russian currency regulations, and on the Russian arbitration court system.  Yakov Balakhovsky is also the author of a well-known Russian legal reference book, as well as a number of articles on international and business law published in law reviews and yearbooks. He has been a contributing author to the Russia/Central Europe Executive Guide, writing a monthly column on Russian legal news.

Representative Highlights
Yakov Balakhovsky served as Director of the legal department and as a member of the board of directors of the Soviet-Spanish Joint Venture Formas, one of the largest privately owned Russian enterprises active in non-ferrous metals trading on the international markets.

Yakov Balakhovsky has also served as General Counsel of the Soviet-Swiss Joint Venture Informinvest in Moscow, Russia. Informinvest was one of the first privately owned computer services and software development companies in the former Soviet Union.

Yakov Balakhovsky has taught international and Russian corporate and commercial law at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations in Moscow. He has also served as a research fellow at the State Scientific Research Institute of Civil Aviation in Moscow, conducting research in the field of international air law.
