
Daniel Basov is a PTO-registered patent attorney admitted to practice in the state and federal courts in New York and the District of Columbia, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, with more than 12 years of experience in nearly all aspects of intellectual property law practice and other types of litigation at the trial and appellate levels. His current practice focuses on representing technology clients in all aspects of intellectual property related matters, including litigation, trademark prosecution, patent prosecution involving software, electronics, electro-mechanical and medical devices, telecommunications and business method patents, negotiating and drafting IP license agreements, advising on the IP aspects of corporate transactions and e-commerce, preparing patent infringement/validity opinions and rendering trademark and copyright advice. Mr. Basov also has broad experience in the area of corporate and IP transactional activities. His law practice includes evaluation and substantive analysis of existing IP assets, due diligence for the corporate M&A and other transactions, preparation and negotiations of various technology-related agreements and licenses including, but not limited to,content creation, distribution and marketing, joint development, various consulting, management and development services, co-branding, e-commerce, outsourcing, technology acquisitions and transfers, executive compensation and settlement agreements.
Representative Highlights In his litigation practice, Mr. Basov has successfully represented various clients in high profile patent infringement, trade secret and copyright jury and bench trials, arbitration proceedings and appeals. Among other litigation matters, Mr. Basov successfully represented companies such as General Electric, JP Morgan Chase, Hewlett-Packard Co., Phillips, Avon Foundation, Matsushita, Minebea Co. and STI/Conductus Inc. in various disputes involving medical ultrasound technologies, financial services software and computerized systems, e-commerce and business method patents and trade secrets, video and bar code encryption methodologies, consumer electronics, electromechanical devices, computer hardware and cellular technologies. In addition to his litigation experience, Mr. Basov also has extensive licensing and transactional experience. Mr. Basov oversees all aspects of patent and trademark prosecution, and conducts strategic IP portfolio acquisition, management and reorganization for a number of software, technology and media clients. He also frequently prepares and negotiates technology-related agreements, provides infringement and validity patent opinions, and renders trademark and copyright advice on acquisition, management and enforcement of IP rights worldwide and resolution of any existing or potential disputes. Mr. Basov's transactional practice includes rendering legal advice and representing technology clients in a wide variety of corporate and IP matters, including mergers and acquisitions, technology transfers, joint ventures, licensing, outsourcing and all types of transactions involving IP assets and technology agreements. Among many others, he represented Conexent Systems Inc. in a 2.8 billion dollar merger with a broadband and wireless solution provider, Globespan/Virata Inc., rendered due diligence and contract advice for Rockwell Collins, Inc. in connection with aviation technologies, provided legal advice to Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget SCA and its subsidiaries in connection with the purchase of the tissue business of Georgia-Pacific Corporation, advised Spirits International Inc. in connection with worldwide licensing and ownership rights to the “Stolichnaya” family of trademarks, and represented Federated Department Stores and other clients on various matters involving e-commerce patents, copyrights, trademark, domain name disputes and license negotiations.
